An Introduction to Keeping Kids Safer:

In 2002 the New Zealand Police and the Safer Streets Trust published a 30 page booklet with the above title and sub-title. The purpose of the project was to distribute the material as widely as possible to guide parents and care givers who wanted to understand more about abuse, and in turn, help their children avoid it or act appropriately should it occur.

The book is currently being offered to schools with up to Year 8 classes who wish to include it in their health education programmes, especially where parents are involved.

Many parents have remarked how useful it is in helping them underpin what the school and visiting Police Education Officers present in the "Keeping Ourselves Safe" programme.

A companion volume of practical activities for families to work on at home together will be made available in 2005.
