Patrons

Sir Wilson Whineray

I am proud to be the Patron-In-Chief of the Young New Zealanders Foundation, a charity that has a genuine sense of purpose and direction and a long history of promoting health and achievement for young people throughout New Zealand.

I believe we are in an excellent position to help New Zealand reach its goals as a nation by helping our youth extend their abilities and thus achieve success for themselves as well as benefits for the whole of our society.

May I congratulate all supporters, donors and sponsors for what has been accomplished, and urge your continued participation in all the Foundation seeks to achieve for our young people who, as we know, are our future.

Sir Wilson Whineray

It's been ten years since the Young New Zealanders Foundation began its work on behalf of the young people of New Zealand and I have been involved since the beginning.  During that time it has developed the programmes and materials which it has provided free to schools and individuals who need them.  I have been delighted to watch its programmes and resources spread throughout New Zealand.

But in our wonderful country there are still young people who desperately need help to cope with situations which are not of their making.  So it's appropriate that this year some great new programmes are being launched.

One has only to be aware of our shocking youth suicide rate to get some idea of what fear is about for young people. And remember suicide is only one aspect. What about child abuse? As one who has served on the Auckland Hospital Board I have seen the awful results of that.
The Foundation needs all the help that it can get and for that reason alone I strongly declare it is my intention to support and assist.
