Overview

Travel Log is the follow-on to our very successful school programme, Gemstones. Aimed at Years 9 to 12, Travel Log is based on Travels of Plymouth, the second book in the Splendora trilogy by Ron Phillips. Like Gemstones it uses the power and effectiveness of Therapeutic Storytelling Intervention and builds on the lessons learned in Gemstones.

In Travel Log, which builds on the lessons already learned in Gemstones, the teenage Plymouth confronts the common conflicts and dilemmas of middle adolescence.

The programme uses five stories from Travels of Plymouth, to help young people interact with new knowledge and understandings, and to develop and use skills to make informed decisions and healthy choices in their search for maturity and identity.

The five stories centre around the key concepts of:

  • Partner relationships
  • Domestic violence
  • Sibling rivalry
  • Using education wisely
  • Resisting drugs and alcohol

A central premise of the Splendora Trilogy is that life, as a journey, presents individuals with many challenges and opportunities. Travel Log can help young people to prepare for these challenges and opportunities, to develop a belief in themselves as individuals and to help them realise that they can make a very positive contribution to society.
