Parents
Middle adolescence is a period in their lives when young people are on the road of transformation. While changes are taking place physically, mentally, cognitively and sexually, it is also a time when your teenager is trying to become more independent from you, is spending less time with you, and is developing an increased awareness of the opposite sex.
The Travel Log programme uses the highly successful Therapeutic Storytelling Intervention to deal with issues your young teenager is likely to confront during middle adolescence. It has been developed for use with groups of young people in the school setting. While parents and caregivers cannot apply for the free Travel Log kitset of materials, you may want to explore some of the issues yourself so that you can discuss them with your teenager if needed.
- The Families Commission has a website giving advice to parents on a number of the issues covered in Travel Log, e.g. sibling rivalry, family violence.
- Team Up's website has some useful guidelines on: drugs, smoking and alcohol how you can support your teenager's learning maintaining good relationships.
- Self-help On-line's website has parenting articles including one on setting boundaries between siblings.
Travel Log is based on Travels of Plymouth, the second in the Splendora trilogy, written by counsellor Ron Phillips. Copies of the books can be purchased on-line at the tsi bookshop.
